In the Kursk region of Russia, enemy losses have already exceeded 20,000 personnel — equivalent to five brigades.
According to military expert Nikolai Malomuzh, a general of the Ukrainian army and former head of the foreign intelligence service, these forces could have been deployed in the directions of Uglidar, Pokrovsk, or Zaporizhzhia.
The expert believes that the dynamics of the situation in Kursk are influenced by the characteristics of the initial phase of the operation. At the start, there was no significant concentration of Russian combat forces in the region. The main contingent consisted of conscripts, Rosgvardiya personnel, and FSB agents who were not prepared for active combat operations.
"By utilizing surprise and secrecy, we deployed trained combat units with advanced equipment. This allowed us to effectively control a buffer zone stretching 1,380 kilometers, before the enemy could concentrate their forces for a counterattack. Today, up to 55,000 Russian soldiers are concentrated in this area," Malomuzh noted.
He emphasized that the maneuver warfare conducted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk allows them to maintain the initiative.
The goal of the Ukrainian military is not to hold territory at any cost, but to inflict maximum damage on the enemy, create chaos within their ranks, and distract significant forces.
"We conduct targeted operations, eliminate the enemy, and draw away substantial units. When necessary, we withdraw from certain positions to strike unexpectedly in gray zones," the expert added.
