Donald Trump, the former President of the United States and Republican presidential candidate, is suing the UK Labour Party, accusing it of interfering in the 2024 presidential election.
According to Trump, the Labour Party allegedly provided illegal assistance to his opponent, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. This complaint has already gained significant attention as Trump has approached the U.S. Federal Election Commission, demanding an immediate investigation. He claims that political strategists from the Labour Party actively supported Harris's campaign, which constitutes a violation of U.S. laws regarding foreign contributions to political campaigns.
In this complaint, Trump's team points out that Labour Party officials, including the head of the UK Prime Minister's administration, Keir Starmer—Morgan McSweeney, chief political strategist Deborah Mattinson, and Director of Communications for Downing Street Matthew Doyle—visited the United States. Particular emphasis was placed on a remote LinkedIn post by Labour representative Sofia Patel, who mentioned recruiting nearly 100 party workers to support the election campaign in the U.S.
Trump's lawyers indicate that such support from the Labour Party violates U.S. campaign finance laws, as it constitutes direct interference by foreign entities.
Additionally, the scandal has involved Elon Musk, the billionaire and major donor to Trump's campaign, who is actively supporting him in his bid for the presidency. Musk described the actions of the Labour Party as "illegal" and called for immediate intervention by U.S. authorities to put an end to this "interference in the elections."
