Journalists from "Suspilne" reported that they received a video recording from the SBU counterintelligence, in which a Russian soldier admits to the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war.

The soldier from the 810th brigade of the Russian naval infantry confessed to the murder. According to him, this occurred on December 21, 2024, in the Kursk region.
The Russian soldier recounted that they captured two Ukrainian fighters. He tied one of them, who was severely wounded, to a tree, while he took the other one "for evacuation."
When he returned, he received an order to shoot the injured prisoner of war, the Russian claims.
“I contacted my platoon commander [by the call sign] Gюрза. He ordered me to shoot the serviceman who had a fragment in his leg. After that, I shot the serviceman. I acknowledge my guilt and am ready to bear the punishment prescribed by law,” noted the Russian soldier.
The investigation found that at the time of the murder, the Ukrainian soldier was lying on the ground with his hands tied behind his back and facing down.
In December 2024, Special Operations Forces captured a Russian soldier from the 810th brigade, who then provided testimony. They are currently preparing to announce charges against him for the murder of the Ukrainian prisoner of war.
Law enforcement officials are also identifying the Russian soldier from the 2nd platoon of the 5th battalion of the 810th separate naval infantry brigade, by the call sign Gюрза, who issued the order for the execution.
Earlier, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported that a video of the probable execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war is circulating online in the Kursk direction. The footage shows a Russian shooting a prisoner in the head. According to one of the Ukrainian servicemen, the video features soldiers from the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of November 2024, law enforcement agencies investigated 53 criminal cases regarding the execution of 177 servicemen. In just October and November, 13 such cases were registered against 54 fighters.
Last year, the number of criminal cases opened regarding the murders of Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russians increased more than fourfold compared to 2022 and 2023.
