He stated this in an interview with the Times of India.
“Regarding the UN Secretary-General, I believe it is generally a surprise. But it's not just about the UN; it's about many other countries,” says Zelensky.
He explains that during the Russian-Ukrainian war, no country can claim to be neutral; otherwise, it would mean, in his words, that the country is on the side of Russia.
“I think those who were there (at the BRICS summit) and spoke of their neutrality, wanting to help resolve the conflict, seem to me to be more pro-Russian. And this is not about peace,” added the Ukrainian president.
Recall that last week, UN Secretary-General António Guterres attended the BRICS summit in Kazan, where he met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to AFP, against this backdrop, President Vladimir Zelensky declined the Secretary-General's visit to Ukraine.
The summit, which took place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan, Russia, was attended by over 20 world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
In point 36 of the summit's final declaration, participants noted that all states must act in accordance with the goals and principles of the UN Charter. This point also mentioned Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that the summit in Kazan demonstrated that the majority of the world remains on Ukraine's side in its pursuit of establishing a just peace. Moreover, Moscow's attempts to impose the notion of an allegedly alternative position of the so-called Global South regarding the war have “suffered another failure.”
