Zelensky: In the early days of the war, Lukashenko apologized and claimed he was not at fault.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko apologized in the early days of the war and insisted that he was not responsible for the missiles being launched from his country's territory.

The head of state shared this in a podcast with Lex Friedman, which was published by the President's Office.

According to Zelensky, Lukashenko claimed he tried to dissuade the head of Russia, Vladimir Putin, from attacking Ukraine.

“You believe me, Volodya, it’s not me,” he told me. He said he doesn’t control the missiles, that it’s Putin,” recalled the Ukrainian president about their conversation.

In turn, Zelensky responded to Lukashenko by saying he was “just as much a killer.” At the same time, the Belarusian leader insisted that “you can't fight the Russians.”

Then, according to Zelensky, Lukashenko suggested that Ukraine retaliate by striking the Mozyr Oil Refinery in Belarus.

It is worth noting that the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that Russia never aimed to conquer Ukraine. If this were to happen, he said, Ukrainians would begin a guerrilla war.

Lukashenko also claimed that Putin allegedly regrets the losses in the war but still believes he is right.

Belarus in the War of Russia Against Ukraine

Belarus has not sent its own troops to Ukraine but has provided its territory for Russian forces that are shelling Ukraine; it has treated Russian military personnel; and conducted joint military exercises with Russia.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice noted that the Belarusian Ministry of Defense acts in the interests of the military-political leadership of Russia and facilitated the organization of training and direct armed aggression against Ukraine.

The self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, actively supports Putin's policies. In particular, Belarus is accused of involvement in the deportation of Ukrainian children from eastern Ukraine. Lukashenko referred to this as the “rehabilitation” of children and stated that he would continue to do so. At the same time, Lukashenko spreads narratives of Russian propaganda, “demonizing” Western countries.
