In Zaporizhzhia, 63 injuries have been reported following a Russian strike. An eyewitness shared details about the scene of the attack. (UPDATED)

In Zaporizhzhia, the number of casualties has risen to 63 following a Russian strike.

This was reported by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, on the "Unified News" broadcast.

Updated at 21:52. According to data from the State Emergency Service, 63 people were injured as a result of the strike. Emergency and rescue operations have been completed.

At least 80 individuals have sought medical assistance, even though the official count of the injured is currently lower.

As stated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, most of the victims were on the street and in public transport at the time of the Russian airstrikes.

Twenty-eight vehicles were damaged, including a tram and a minibus.

The fire at the site of the strike has already been extinguished in the administrative building and vehicles.

Witness Dmitry told "Radio Liberty" about what he saw after the strike on Zaporizhzhia.

According to the man, due to the threat of a repeated strike, the ambulance could not approach for some time.

"What did I see? A tram, a burning car, people lying without legs, wounded, black smoke rising, screams, and no one around. When I arrived, there were three people," Dmitry recalled.

Around 16:00, Russian troops began shelling the city of Zaporizhzhia with UAVs. Two aerial bombs struck residential areas.

The shelling resulted in the destruction of multi-story buildings, an industrial facility, and other city infrastructure. Debris hit a tram and a minibus with passengers.

As of now, there are reports of 13 fatalities due to Russian shelling. A day of mourning was declared in Zaporizhzhia on January 9 for the deceased.
