The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has resumed scheduled inspections by market surveillance authorities for non-food products, which were temporarily suspended during the state of martial law.

Previously, there was a moratorium in place as it aided businesses in adapting to the conditions of full-scale war.

“Today, we are reinstating state oversight in this area. This will help protect people from purchasing and using hazardous products, as well as create a level playing field for businesses and safeguard honest manufacturers from competitors who offer cheap but substandard products. At the same time, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the Business Ombudsman Council will monitor compliance with current legislation and the transparency of inspectors’ work during market surveillance activities,” stated the Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Tetyana Berezhna.

According to her, this decision is also a requirement from European partners. It is a necessary step in line with the European Commission's recommendations in preparation for signing the ACAA Agreement (“industrial visa-free regime”) and the Ukraine Facility program.

The return of state oversight will contribute to improving the quality and safety of non-food products. It will also enhance competition—more quality goods will become available for sale. Gradually, this will bring the Ukrainian consumer market closer to the internal European market and promote the signing of an “industrial visa-free” agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
