Poland explained its opposition to sending troops to Ukraine, stating that there should be a fair distribution of responsibilities.

Poland's Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, ruled out the possibility of sending Polish peacekeepers to Ukraine after the war. According to him, this responsibility should not fall on countries that share a border with Ukraine.

He stated this in an interview with the Financial Times.

The Polish minister announced his willingness to discuss a peace plan that could be proposed by the elected U.S. President Donald Trump, which may allegedly include the idea of sending peacekeepers.

However, he is convinced that "bordering states should not, in any way, deploy their troops in Ukraine" and that NATO should have a "burden-sharing and diversification" strategy.

Kosiniak-Kamysz also supported Trump's demand for NATO countries to allocate 5% of their GDP for defense, even if it would take some alliance members up to 10 years to achieve this.

Previously, French President Emmanuel Macron visited Poland to reportedly discuss the possibility of sending a contingent of French and Polish troops to Ukraine.

However, following this, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his country does not plan to send its troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping mission, even if a peace agreement were reached between Ukraine and Russia.

Western troops in Ukraine

Back in February 2024, French President Emmanuel Macron held a meeting with partner countries of Kyiv, where he discussed sending his troops to Ukraine.

In November, the French publication Le Monde reported that some European leaders had once again returned to discussions about the potential deployment of Western troops in Ukraine due to the possible refusal of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump to provide assistance to Kyiv.

At the same time, European politicians are skeptical about the possibility of sending a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine if U.S. military involvement is not included, as reported by the media.
