This was stated by the spokesperson of the State Bureau of Investigations, Tatiana Sapyian, in an interview with “Radio Liberty.”
She explained that the case was opened due to the public outcry surrounding the breach. During the investigation, the combat merits of the suspected officers will be taken into account, Sapyian asserts.
When asked whether it would be possible to interrogate other officials in this case — such as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleg Synegubov, or former commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuri Sodol — the representative of the SBI replied that she does not rule out involving “absolutely everyone that the investigation deems necessary to question in order to fully clarify the events.”
On January 20, law enforcement detained former commanders responsible for the defense of Kharkiv region. They are suspected of negligence that led to the capture of part of the region's territory in early May 2024.
Among those detained are former commander of the operational-tactical group "Kharkiv," Yuri Galushkin, former commander of the 125th brigade, Arthur Gorbenko, and former commander of the 415th separate infantry battalion of the 23rd brigade, who is suspected of organizing the unauthorized abandonment of the battlefield.
On January 21, the court imposed a preventive measure on Galushkin — detention for 60 days with the possibility of posting bail of 5 million hryvnias. On Wednesday, January 22, the required amount was paid. However, on the same day, he was detained again — the State Bureau of Investigations announced the revelation of new facts. He himself stated that he is ready to go fight as an ordinary soldier to “preserve his honor.”
Let us remind you that journalists from hromadske conducted an investigation to determine what led to the breach of the border — the actions of the military or more global reasons.
