A citizen of Uzbekistan admitted to killing over 10 Ukrainian soldiers, yet he was not incarcerated.

In Uzbekistan, a 39-year-old man who fought alongside Russia against Ukraine has been sentenced. He confessed to killing more than ten Ukrainian soldiers. However, instead of imprisonment, he received a sentence of restricted freedom.

This is reported by Gazeta.uz referencing a court ruling.

The session took place on December 4, 2024. According to the charges, in April 2023, a citizen of Uzbekistan traveled to Moscow in search of seasonal work. There, he joined the armed forces of Russia and after two months of training at a military range in the Russian capital, he was sent to fight against Ukraine.

During a month of combat, the Russians promised the Uzbek citizen around 4950 dollars. At the end of July 2023, he was deployed to Shakhtyorsk and Bakhmut, where he met Tajiks and other foreigners. He stated that due to his active participation in the battlefield, he was transferred to an intelligence unit. He then spent five months in Luhansk.

The defendant admitted that until November 2023, he killed more than 10 Ukrainian soldiers.

In December of the same year, the mercenary returned to Moscow, refused to extend his contract, and traveled to Uzbekistan with his sister and wife.

In court, the man acknowledged his guilt and expressed remorse. He explained his decision to join the ranks of the Russian armed forces by stating that he was in a “difficult financial situation and was the sole breadwinner for his family.”

It is noted that in Uzbekistan, the man voluntarily reported to the law enforcement authorities and provided documents confirming his participation in the war on the side of Russia.

The defendant faced a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years, but the court mitigated the sentence due to “full admission of guilt, remorse, lack of prior convictions, family circumstances, and having three children.” Ultimately, the man was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months of restricted freedom.

This means he is prohibited from leaving his place of residence, except for necessary time for work or study. He is also forbidden from changing his place of residence without the consent of the supervisory authority, as well as leaving the territory of the Andijan region of Uzbekistan, where he resides. In all other respects, he is free.

“Gazeta.uz” reports that in November, a 22-year-old Uzbek man who fought against Ukraine was sentenced to a conditional term. The court also considered the defendant's “sincere remorse, full admission of guilt, and difficult family situation.”
