In September 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law recognizing the Forces of Unmanned Systems as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The goal of the UAS is to enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in utilizing unmanned and robotic air, sea, and ground systems. Additionally, it aims to ensure readiness for the operational use of such systems.
The "Weapons" section of the internal "resilience plan" by President Volodymyr Zelensky envisioned that by 2025, Ukraine would produce at least 30,000 long-range drones. According to the head of state, these unmanned vehicles are intended to compensate for the lack of artillery in the Ukrainian army.
