Ukrainian and European participation is essential in any negotiations regarding the war, stated the European foreign ministers.

Ukraine and Europe must be involved in any negotiations regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.

This is mentioned in the statement from the foreign ministers of France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland, Germany, the EU, and Ukraine, which was released following Donald Trump's conversation with Vladimir Putin.

The heads of the foreign ministries of European countries emphasized their readiness to strengthen support for Ukraine and affirmed their commitment to its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

They also stressed their support for Ukraine will continue until a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace is achieved that “ensures the interests of Ukraine and its European allies”.

“Ukraine must be provided with strong security guarantees. A just and sustainable peace in Ukraine is a prerequisite for robust Euro-Atlantic security. It is important to remember that the security of the European continent is our shared responsibility. Therefore, we are working together to enhance our collective defense capabilities”, the statement reads.

It is worth noting that on February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump first spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and subsequently with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump reported that he and Putin agreed that they want to “stop millions of deaths.” According to a representative of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, Putin informed Trump about the need to address the “root causes of the conflict” and also invited the U.S. president to Moscow.
