Trump announced his conversation with Putin: "We agreed for our teams to start negotiations immediately."

On the morning of February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump had a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. According to Trump, both leaders expressed their desire to put an end to the loss of life due to the conflict and agreed to initiate negotiations.
Трамп сообщил о беседе с Путиным: "Мы согласовали, чтобы наши команды незамедлительно начали переговоры".

Initially, this was reported by CNN, and subsequently, the conversation was confirmed by Trump himself.

The American president described this conversation as "long and very productive." Specifically, according to Trump, they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, and the "strength of the dollar."

"We both agreed that we want to stop the millions of deaths occurring during the Russia-Ukraine war. President Putin even used the slogan from my campaign: 'Common Sense.' We both strongly believe in this," stated the U.S. president.

According to the American leader, he and Putin agreed to work together "very closely," including visits to each other's countries.

They also agreed that their teams would immediately begin negotiations. However, Trump will first call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to "inform him about the conversation." He plans to do this "right now."

The U.S. negotiations will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Vitkoff. Trump is confident that the negotiations will be successful.

"Millions of people have died in a war that would not have happened if I were president, but it did happen, so it must end. No more lives should be lost!" Trump declared.

He also expressed gratitude to Putin for "his time and effort" regarding this call, as well as for the release of Marc Fogel yesterday.

Additionally, Trump shared how during the conversation, he and Putin "reflected on the great history of our nations." In particular, he again mentioned the losses during World War II, citing incorrect figures. According to him, Russia lost tens of millions of people, "and we lost just as many."

"Each of us spoke about the strengths of our nations and the great benefits we will one day derive from working together," stated the U.S. president.

Updated at 19:27. The spokesperson for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, mentioned that the conversation lasted nearly an hour and a half, as reported by the state news agency TASS. Putin informed Trump of the need to eliminate the "root causes of the conflict" and invited the U.S. president to Moscow.

They agreed to organize a personal meeting.

Preliminary Statements on the Trump-Putin Conversation

On February 10, the New York Post reported that Trump announced in an interview that he spoke with Putin on the phone in an attempt to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. In particular, the U.S. president stated that Putin is "concerned" about the killings on the battlefield. "He wants people to stop dying," he believes.

However, at that time, the spokesperson for the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, was unable to confirm or deny the information regarding the conversation.

The following day, Trump again spoke about the conversation with Putin, but did not specify when it took place and refused to disclose details. At the same time, he mentioned that the U.S. had made progress in negotiations with Russia regarding the cessation of the war.
