While speaking with journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump noted that he has been in contact with Putin.
However, Trump did not clarify whether he spoke with the Russian leader before or after his inauguration; instead, the president stated: “I had that. Let’s say I had that... And I expect many more conversations. We need to end this war.”
The Republican declined to provide further details and added: “I believe we are making progress. We want to stop the Ukraine-Russia war.”
Trump emphasized that the United States maintains contacts with both Russia and Ukraine.
Recently, the New York Post reported that Trump announced in an interview that he spoke with Putin on the phone to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.
Specifically, the U.S. president stated that Putin is “not indifferent” to the killings on the battlefield. “He wants people to stop dying,” he believes.
However, the press secretary of the Russian leader, Dmitry Peskov, was unable to confirm or deny the information regarding the conversation.
