Трамп: Украина может оставить надежды на НАТО, но Путину также придется сделать уступки.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated that Ukraine will need to abandon its NATO membership as a result of an agreement to end the war. He also mentioned that Russian leader Vladimir Putin will have to make concessions as well.

He noted this during a meeting of the U.S. Cabinet on February 26.

According to Trump, Ukraine's intentions to join NATO are the reason why everything began. At the same time, he added that the U.S. will strive to secure a "good agreement" for Ukraine, allowing it to regain "as much territory as possible."

Furthermore, the American president observed that Russia will also have to make concessions, though he did not specify what those would be. He referred to Putin as a "very smart and cunning man" who did not intend to end the war.

Trump claimed that if he had not been elected president, Russia would have continued its military actions with the aim of absorbing all of Ukraine.

Discussions on Ukraine's NATO Membership

Previously, President Donald Trump stated that he does not consider Ukraine's NATO membership to be "practical." He criticized his predecessor Joe Biden for supporting Ukraine's accession to NATO. Additionally, during his campaign, Trump lamented that it was the talks about Ukraine joining NATO that provoked Russia into war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the U.S., Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia "did not see" Ukraine in NATO. However, he explained that NATO membership for the country would be the cheapest guarantee of security for the U.S., Europe, Russia, and Ukraine itself.

The head of state also emphasized that if Ukraine does not become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance, it will be necessary to "build its own NATO."
