U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Russia to cease its war against Ukraine, warning of new sanctions. A suspect in the assault of a girl in Bila Tserkva has been placed in custody. Investigative journalists from Hromadske uncovered that the head of the Shevchenkivskyi District Court in Kyiv is using undeclared property. Here are the key news highlights from January 22.

Trump urged Russia to reach a peace agreement, stating that "it will only get worse"

U.S. President Donald Trump called on Russia to stop the war against Ukraine and to reach an agreement. Otherwise, he threatens taxes, tariffs, and sanctions.

“Let’s end this war that would never have started if I were president! We can do this the easy way or the hard way — and the easy way is always better. It’s time to make a deal. No more lives should be lost!” — stated the U.S. president.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Trump tasked special envoy for the war in Ukraine Kurt Kellogg with resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict within 100 days. At the same time, the publication notes that there has been no expression of interest from Moscow in cooperating with the American special envoy.

Head of the Shevchenko Court did not declare her house and car

Investigative journalists from hromadske discovered that the head of the Shevchenko District Court of Kyiv, Alina Zborshchik, who only declares an apartment in Kyiv, actually resides in a house in the Kyiv region. This house is not listed in the registries, which may indicate that it has not yet been registered.

Additionally, Zborshchik uses an undeclared vehicle — a black Toyota Camry, with a driver.

At the same time, the official declares gifts from her mother, even though her mother is developing a business in occupied Luhansk, and in 2023, she obtained a Russian passport.

Zelensky revealed Russia's demands in Istanbul

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared that during negotiations with Russia in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, the Russian side presented an ultimatum to Kyiv, demanding that Ukraine be led by pro-Russian MP Viktor Medvedchuk.

In addition to the change of president, according to Zelensky, Russia also demanded the transfer of all of Donbas under its control and a reduction of the Ukrainian army to 50,000 soldiers.

Suspect in beating girl in Bila Tserkva taken into custody

The Bila Tserkva City District Court sentenced a 16-year-old boy to custody without bail, who is suspected of beating a girl. His mother stated that she will contest this decision.

There is also information on social media suggesting that the conflict between the teenagers may have been related to drug distribution — allegedly, drugs were offered to the girl who was later beaten. However, the police noted that they currently do not have such information.

SBU detained one of the "most covert FSB agents"

Counterintelligence officers of the SBU exposed a well-known lawyer from Dnipro for adjusting Russian missile strikes on the city. He is considered one of the most covert FSB agents in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

According to the investigation, to inflict maximum damage, he provided not just general coordinates of enterprises, but precise locations of technological workshops and drone storage facilities.

Chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine placed under preventive measure

The chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleg Druzy, was placed in custody for two months with the possibility of being released on bail of 49 million hryvnias. He is suspected of illegal enrichment of over 1 million dollars during the full-scale war.

Journalists reported that he was brought to court by ambulance.

Former commander of the Kharkiv Joint Task Force detained after posting bail

The former commander of the Kharkiv Joint Task Force, Yuriy Halushkin, for whom bail of 5 million hryvnias was posted and released from custody, has been detained again. The State Bureau of Investigation announced new facts regarding the case of border breaches in the Kharkiv region.

According to the investigation, Halushkin facilitated the unauthorized withdrawal of soldiers from the battlefield from a separate territorial defense brigade.

Additionally, the former commander of the 125th separate territorial defense brigade, Artur Horbenko, was also taken into custody, who is also implicated in the case related to the failure of defense in the Kharkiv region.

NABU detective investigating procurement theft resigned

Detective Andriy Denisyuk, who was involved in investigating abuses in the procurement of drones for the State Special Communications, resigned from NABU.

In a letter he sent to his colleagues, Denisyuk outlined the reasons for his resignation. He mentioned that the investigation into the thefts in drone procurement is being handled by "1.5 people," and although NABU claims this case is a priority, there have been no results.

University teacher accused of harassment

A teacher from the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts and director of the Young Theater, Andriy Bilous, has been accused in an anonymous video of sexual harassment and inappropriate messages to female students. The university stated that they have not received any official complaints regarding this matter.
