Our citizens have secured a respectable position in the world regarding their positive expectations for the new year

Currently, 45 percent of Ukrainians anticipate that 2025 will be better than 2024, while 27 percent expect a decline, and 20 believe it will be the same. Additionally, 8 percent of respondents stated that they are uncertain about their expectations for 2025.

These findings are presented by the Sociological Group "Rating".

Analysts noted that compared to last year, the assessments of Ukrainians have shifted toward a more pessimistic outlook.

Conversely, the most optimistic group is those aged 65 and older, with 54 percent of them holding positive expectations for the upcoming year. In contrast, the youth aged 18-24 predominantly do not expect changes, as 33 percent of this demographic believe 2025 will be the same as 2024.

Despite the ongoing war on its territory, Ukraine ranks 15th globally among countries with the most positive expectations for 2025. Compared to other Eastern European countries, our nation holds the top position in this index, standing at 17 percent. Some countries in this region exhibit negative index values: “-14” percent in Poland, “-15” in Bulgaria, “-21” in Serbia, and “-38” in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The survey was conducted from December 2 to 5, 2024, among individuals aged 18 and older across all regions, excluding temporarily occupied areas and locations where combat operations are ongoing. A total of 1,000 respondents were interviewed using a computer-assisted telephone method. The statistical error does not exceed 3.1 percent.

As a reminder, according to the results of the sociological survey, the absolute majority of Ukrainians (56%) will celebrate both Christmas and New Year this year.
