The United States has extended the sanctions against Russia for another year, which were imposed due to its invasion of Ukraine. The relevant order will take effect on February 28.
This information is stated in a document from the White House that has been submitted to the U.S. Federal Register.
The order mentions that Russia's policies towards Ukraine “undermine democratic processes, threaten its peace, security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity”.
It is worth noting that earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington would not lift sanctions against Russia at least until an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is reached.
At the same time, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that the issue of adjusting sanctions against Russia might be discussed in negotiations.
