Drones have attacked the Smolensk region in Russia, likely targeting a factory that produces engines for missiles.

On the night of January 4th, explosions were reported in the city of Safonovo, located in the Smolensk region of Russia, following a drone attack. One of the factories associated with the Russian defense industry may have been hit.

The local governor Vasily Anokhin reported on the drone attack.

According to him, overnight, 5 Ukrainian drones were allegedly shot down in the region. No one was harmed as a result of the shelling.

Meanwhile, reports on social media suggest that the "Avangard" factory may have been targeted by the drones. This facility specializes in manufacturing transport-launch containers and engine casings for missiles, as well as counter-radiation protection for armored vehicles.

In the meantime, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 16 drones that were allegedly launched by the Defense Forces. Of these, 3 were destroyed over the Smolensk region.
