Scholz urged the Bundestag to recognize the war in Ukraine as a "state of emergency."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the Bundestag should immediately recognize the war unleashed by Russia and its consequences for Germany and Europe as a "state of emergency," which would help bolster ongoing support for Ukraine.
Шольц urged the Bundestag to classify the war in Ukraine as a "state of emergency."

He announced this in a press statement, as reported by "Ukrinform".

“The Bundestag must urgently adopt a resolution classifying the war in Ukraine and its serious consequences for the security of Germany and Europe as an emergency situation under Article 115, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution. This will ensure that our support for Ukraine, which is more crucial than ever, will no longer come at the expense of other responsibilities our state must fulfill towards its own citizens,” stated the Chancellor.

However, it remains unclear from his words what amounts of aid may be discussed and from which sources they will be drawn.

It is possible that new loans are being considered, as Scholz reiterated his demand to reform the "debt brake" system to allow investment inflows into Germany's security and defense, and expressed hope that other democratic parties would support this proposal.

“This is about the peace and security of our country,” declared the head of government. Scholz is convinced that, given the events of the last 24 hours and the statements from the American administration, the answer to this question cannot be postponed.

The Chancellor also intends to promote discussion within the EU on how to invest in collective defense and build a strong European defense industry.

“Today, we must confront the reality of what the actions and statements of the US administration mean for Ukraine, Europe, and the world. Inability to act would pose a threat to the security of our country and our continent, and I will not allow that to happen at this critical time for our nation,” emphasized the Chancellor.
