This was reported by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić during a broadcast on the Pink.rs portal.
“We will talk to people from the Trump administration. I have never involved myself in global issues, but Serbia is interested in being the meeting place for the President of Russia and the President of America. We are fully prepared to ensure the safety of both presidents,” he stated.
It should be noted that Serbia is a state party to the International Criminal Court, having signed and ratified the Rome Statute, which means it could detain Putin based on an arrest warrant from the ICC.
Earlier, Switzerland also mentioned that it could arrange a meeting between Trump and Putin, and the warrant would not hinder this.
Recall that during his previous press conference, Trump stated that he was aware of Putin's desire to meet with him. However, he considers it "inappropriate" to do so before his inauguration, scheduled for January 20. Subsequently, his national security advisor indicated that preparations are still ongoing, but a conversation could take place “in the coming days or weeks”.
Back in 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin on suspicion of the illegal transfer and deportation of populations, including children, from occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.
Despite this, the leader of Russia has already traveled to countries that ratified the Rome Statute and were supposed to arrest him. For instance, in early September he arrived on a working visit to Mongolia. However, he was not arrested there.
A representative of the Mongolian government stated that Mongolia could not arrest Putin due to its dependence on imports of Russian energy products. At the same time, the representative added that his country has always adhered to a policy of neutrality in diplomatic relations.
