During the Kursk operation, the Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to tie up significant Russian forces and resources in combat, but they were unable to escalate the fighting to the extent that would require the enemy to redeploy reserves from the eastern front.

This was stated by military expert, flight instructor, and retired colonel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Roman Svitan, in an interview with the Commander-in-Chief.

According to the expert, in 2025, Ukrainian troops will attempt to further pressure the Russian occupiers to the point where they will have to halt their movements in the east and increase their contingent in the Kursk region. The main objective of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is not to capture territory, but simply to engage in a sufficiently powerful combat interaction.

"Therefore, the reserve units that we will have when making decisions will be added to the Kursk operation to control the hostilities themselves," Roman Svitan stated.

The military expert noted that in 2025, the Ukrainian Armed Forces should also conduct operations similar to the Kursk one in two more Russian regions – Bryansk and Belgorod. If we had initiated the operation in Belgorod in 2023-2024, the Russians would not have made any advances toward Kharkiv, but what held us back was likely the insufficient amount of ammunition and personnel.

Roman Svitan added that if the goal of the fighting in Belgorod is to tie down the enemy so they do not advance toward Kharkiv, then in Bryansk, an important target could be the Druzhba oil pipeline.
