Orban agreed not to block sanctions against Russia. According to Politico, he made a request in return for this decision.

Budapest is set to reject the sanctions against Russia that the European Union plans to extend. The EU is expected to release a statement acknowledging Hungary's concerns regarding "energy security," especially in light of the halt in the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
Орбан согласился не препятствовать санкциям против России, как сообщает Politico, в обмен на определенные условия.

This is reported by Politico, citing two unnamed EU diplomats.

The diplomats mentioned that an agreement with Hungary was reached at the last minute. For this reason, today, January 27, EU ambassadors will convene for an emergency meeting, and the agreement will be officially approved during the foreign ministers' meeting.

Politico quotes EU diplomats who are "sighing in discontent" over Budapest's threats to block sanctions: "They [the Hungarians] enjoy the drama."

Earlier, Orbán stated that Brussels must adapt to the "new situation" and lift sanctions against Russia. He also mentioned that if Ukraine wants an extension of European sanctions, it must resume gas transit.

Additionally, the Hungarian Prime Minister believes that anti-Russian restrictions have not stopped the war and have not hindered the Russian economy.
