Discussions suggesting that the aim of the new offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region could have been to reach the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant and even Kursk itself are not accurate.
The Ukrainian defense forces operated with very limited capabilities, and breaching the fortifications on the way to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant would require a grouping of around 50,000 troops. This was stated by military-political analyst Alexander Kovalенко from the "Information Resistance" group in his Telegram channel.
The military expert pointed out that the main strike forces of the Russian grouping in the Kursk region are positioned along the western borders, while there are also significant forces along the eastern borders. However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' strike targeted an area where only the 72nd Motorized Rifle Division, Rosgvardiya, and various "Akhmat forces" were stationed.
According to the expert, the panic in the Russian information space regarding the Ukrainian attack vividly demonstrated the real situation, indicating that Russia lacks the means to cover certain sections of the front, and there are no reserves.
"Several days after the audacious strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the northeastern direction, it becomes clear that the goal at this stage was not the elusive objective of Kursk, but rather a dynamic assessment of the capability of the Russian Armed Forces to strengthen extremely vulnerable sections of their front. The results indicate that the capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces are comparable to a tightly stretched string," – stated Alexander Kovalенко.
