For the first time, NATO deployed Norwegian F-35s in Poland in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Two F-35 fighter jets stationed by Norway in Poland were deployed for the first time during a Russian missile attack on Ukraine on January 15.

This was reported by the NATO Air Force command.

Norwegian fighters were scrambled in response to a "large number of Russian aircraft in the air."

The command emphasized that this is the first instance when Norwegian planes were deployed "for active air defense of Polish airspace, demonstrating the Alliance's commitment to NATO's eastern flank."

The Polish Armed Forces command reported on January 15 that they had raised aviation in response to a massive Russian attack on Ukraine. Alert fighter jets were deployed, and ground air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on maximum readiness.

Attacks on Ukraine

During the night and morning of January 15, Russian troops attacked Ukraine's energy and gas infrastructure. They launched a total of 117 missiles and drones for this strike. A total of 23 Kh-101/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 3 Kalibr missiles, 4 Kh-59/Kh-69 missiles, and 47 drones were intercepted. An additional 27 drones disappeared from radar.

As a result of the attack, Ukrainian energy facilities were hit, particularly gas infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
