This information comes from the special unit of the GUR MO “Brotherhood”, the spokesperson of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrey Kovalev, and historian Yuriy Yuzich.
The “Brotherhood” noted that Zhuk died in Volchansk while covering the retreat of his comrades. According to Kovalev, this occurred back in May 2024, but “there were certain reasons to keep this secret for so long.”
Yuzich shared that Konstantin Zhuk, known in patriotic circles by the nickname “Colonel,” was born on May 21, 1955, in the city of Smela, Cherkasy region. He held three higher education degrees, which he obtained in Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kyiv.
Until 1992, he served in the Soviet army in command positions, notably as the commander of a separate battalion. He then continued his military career in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2004, he retired and focused on youth schools in “Plast.” According to Yuzich and Kovalev, Zhuk is already the sixth military casualty from the Plast camp “Order of the Iron Trident.”
Kovalev added that during the Anti-Terrorist Operation, Zhuk commanded the special forces battalion “Garpun” within the Ministry of Internal Affairs and later led a counter-sabotage group in the Security Service of Ukraine.
Since 2022, he was the commander of the “Free Ukraine” battalion, participating in the defense of Kyiv, the liberation of Mykolaiv region, and the defense of Snake Island. He led several units focused on recruiting foreign volunteers.
Additionally, the military was a biker and the president of the National Association of Motorcyclists of Ukraine. In biker circles, he was known as “Polka.”
