He mentioned this during a meeting with scientists and participants of Belarusian Antarctic expeditions, as reported by the Telegram channel "Pool of the First," which is close to Lukashenko.
The self-proclaimed Belarusian leader stated that he warned about the necessity for Belarus to be present at negotiations, particularly to Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He explained that this is "our problem" and, according to him, he does not want decisions regarding "our issues to be made without us" at the talks.
"They won't take Polesie up to Gomel. That's not the point. But they could make decisions such that half the country might have to be given away tomorrow," Lukashenko said.
According to him, Ukraine publicly claims that Belarus should not be at the negotiations, which Lukashenko attributes to the fact that "they don't need such Belarusians; they need sellouts who will surrender their positions and interests everywhere."
"And why is that? Because you can't break Lukashenko, you can't bend him; he will defend his interests," the Belarusian leader added.
Belarus has not sent its own troops to Ukraine but has provided its territory for Russian forces that conduct shelling of Ukraine; it has accepted Russian military personnel for treatment; and it has conducted joint military exercises with Russia while a full-scale war against Ukraine is ongoing.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice noted that the Ministry of Defense of Belarus acts in the interests of the military-political leadership of Russia and has facilitated the organization of training and direct armed aggression against Ukraine.
Lukashenko himself actively supports Putin's policies. In particular, Belarus is accused of being involved in the deportation of Ukrainian children from eastern Ukraine. Lukashenko referred to this as "rehabilitating" the children and stated that he will continue to do so. At the same time, Lukashenko spreads narratives of Russian propaganda, "demonizing" Western countries.
