Blogger Yura Skyf left the country "for safety reasons." He was reportedly assaulted by employees of the military enlistment office prior to his departure.

Instagram blogger Yura Skyf from Lviv moved to Warsaw allegedly "for his own safety." He previously claimed that he was supposedly assaulted by employees of the Territorial Recruitment Center during a document check.

He shared this in an Instagram story.

In the video, he walks down one of the streets of Warsaw and urged people not to blame him for fleeing. He also mentioned that he deeply wished to stay in Ukraine, but "the circumstances turned out differently." He explained that his departure was for safety reasons.

A few days earlier, on October 12, Yura Skyf claimed that he was allegedly assaulted by officers of the Military Commissariat who were conducting a document check. He stated that about 50 individuals, who were wearing black masks and spoke Russian, "attacked" him and other people.

According to the blogger, they began to "pull, hit, and threw him and other men to the ground," but when the police arrived, they had no complaints after checking the documents.

It is unclear whether Yura Skyf's departure abroad was legal.

What led up to this?

On the evening of October 11, checks by the Military Commissariat took place in many other cities across Ukraine. In particular, a photo of individuals in military uniforms who visited a nightclub in Lviv was published by Lviv City Council member Igor Zinkevich.

Meanwhile, at the Sports Palace in Kyiv, after the performance of the band "Okean Elzy," several dozen officers from the Military Commissariat and Patrol Police awaited visitors. They were checking military registration documents of those liable for military service.

The city Military Commissariat emphasized that there were no conflicts between their military personnel and civilian men, stating that checks have been conducted constantly since the beginning of martial law and mobilization.

What are the consequences of illegal border crossing?

Crossing the border outside of designated checkpoints, such as through forests and mountains, is subject to administrative liability under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (КУпАП). The penalties for this article include a fine ranging from 3,400 to 8,500 hryvnias or administrative arrest for up to 15 days with the confiscation of tools and means used to commit the offense.

Additionally, illegal border crossing may be classified as evasion from mobilization. This already carries criminal liability under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which prescribes imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years.
