The Trump administration aims to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter, according to Bloomberg.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has informed European officials that it aims to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter, which falls on April 20 this year.
Администрация Трампа стремится установить перемирие в Украине до Пасхи, сообщает Bloomberg.

This is reported by Bloomberg citing its own sources.

Some European officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the pace of negotiations set to begin in Saudi Arabia, involving high-ranking officials from the U.S. and Russia, is "ambitious and potentially unrealistic."

One of the agency's sources noted that achieving a resolution by the end of this year is a much more likely scenario.

"The Trump administration has informed European officials that it wants to secure a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter," sources from Bloomberg report.

European officials have indicated that they are working on a significant new package to increase spending on support for Kyiv, as President Donald Trump insists on a swift end to the war in Ukraine.

The publication describes the situation as urgent because Trump "is in a hurry to end the war in Ukraine, and European officials are concerned that President Volodymyr Zelensky may be pushed into a disastrous agreement if they cannot quickly develop a plan to provide him with military support."

According to officials informed about the plans, support will only be announced after the elections in Germany on February 23 to avoid escalating disputes before the vote.

Several EU leaders have been invited to Paris to begin working on a response after U.S. officials sharply stated that "there is a limit to how much the U.S. is willing to do."

"Trump's return to the White House has fundamentally changed transatlantic relations, and U.S. officials have made it clear that the president is prepared to let Europeans face the consequences if they refuse to take responsibility for their own security," the agency writes.

What is known about the negotiations in Saudi Arabia?

On February 12, U.S. President Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and afterward with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky.

Following that, he noted that he plans to visit Russia, while Putin is expected to visit the U.S., but before that, the politicians are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia.

Subsequently, Trump stated that American and Russian officials will soon meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss the resolution of the war. This meeting is scheduled for next week (February 17-23), and the Ukrainian side will also be part of it.

Zelensky has stated that Ukraine will not participate in negotiations where decisions are made without Kyiv's involvement. Mikhail Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the President's Office, also mentioned that the Ukrainian side will not take part in the meeting. He explained that there is currently "nothing on the negotiating table" to discuss. Furthermore, he emphasized that Russia is not ready for negotiations.
