The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a new commemorative coin titled “The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine”
It was presented by the head of the NBU, Andriy Pyshny, and the chief of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Oleg Ivashchenko, as reported by NBU.
“The representatives of the modern Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine are true professionals, who gather the intelligence information necessary for making strategic state decisions, especially regarding the protection of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine. Although the successes and achievements of foreign intelligence mostly remain concealed, we recognize your extremely important role in safeguarding Ukraine from external threats. Therefore, our new coin is a heartfelt tribute to the invincibility, sharp intellect, and spirit of the heroes belonging to the ranks of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine,” stated Andriy Pyshny.
The design of the coin incorporates elements of the new symbolism and departmental awards of the Service, as well as a coded message on the reverse side of the coin. Here, around the trident, the words of one of the well-known Ukrainian political figures are encoded in numbers. The cipher of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army was used for the encoding, along with a code word chosen by the Service.
The Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has announced a competition among decryption specialists, who will have a designated period to decipher the coded message. The text of the decrypted message will be published in the coin's description six months after its issuance.
