Men face additional penalties
Law enforcement officials uncovered a group of extortionists in the capital's detention center who demanded $10,000 from a fellow inmate.
This was reported by the Kyiv Prosecutor's Office.
It has been established that three foreigners and a citizen of Ukraine, while being detained for serious crimes, learned from other inmates that a man had entered the detention center who, in one of the criminal cases, allegedly cooperated with law enforcement.
The representatives of the criminal world were displeased by this and began to intimidate and assault the man, demanding $10,000 until they effectively "persuaded" him to hand over the money. The funds were to be transferred in the detention center "voluntarily" through a mediator who arrived for the meeting.
Currently, four individuals who actively participated in the extortion have been charged with committing a new serious crime, for which they face a penalty of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Recall, that capital police arrested a group of extortionists who threatened the victim to force him to pay them $12,500 for a non-existent debt.
