A gadget thief was apprehended in Kyiv while attempting to steal the latest iPhones.

Law enforcement in the capital has reported suspicions against a young man who tried to rob a tech store in the Svyatoshyn district.

This information is reported by the communications department of the Kyiv police.

A report about the crime occurring in one of the shopping centers was received by the Svyatoshyn district police department.

“The officers who arrived at the crime scene determined that the young man entered the store and began conversing with a consultant about purchasing an 'iPhone' mobile phone. During the conversation, the suspect indicated he was interested in the latest model, prompting him to ask the employee to bring him three gadgets for inspection. Later, the young man took advantage of the consultant's distraction, grabbed items worth a total of 233,000 hryvnias, and fled,” the police reported.

The security personnel of the shopping center apprehended the young man and handed him over to the police. The gadget enthusiast turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Kyiv, who has been notified of suspicion under part 2 of Article 15 and part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – attempted robbery committed under martial law conditions. The article's sanction provides for up to ten years of imprisonment.
