Economists have conducted a calculation
For the New Year's table in 2025, Ukrainians will have to spend at least almost 3,600 hryvnias, considering the significant price increase of most food items this year.
This was reported by the director of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agricultural Economics" Yuriy Luplenko.
“Researchers at the Institute of Agricultural Economics calculated the cost of the New Year's table for 2025 based on average supermarket prices in Ukraine as of mid-December 2024. According to their calculations, the New Year's menu consisting of traditional dishes for an average family table, including salads, meat and fish products, vegetables, fruits, baked goods, confectionery, beverages, etc., will cost a family of four approximately 3594.05 UAH, which is 24.8% more expensive than last year,” — wrote Luplenko.
According to him, the calculations by the researchers at the Institute of Agricultural Economics indicate that the "Olivier" salad will cost 384.41 UAH, which is 17.7% more than during the New Year celebrations of 2024.
Due to the rise in prices for its ingredients, the cost of the "Herring under a fur coat" salad will reach 168.19 UAH, which is 21.9% higher than last year's figure of 138.01 UAH.
At the same time, for 350 g of "Braunschweig" smoked sausage, one will have to pay 334 UAH (19% more than last year), half a kilogram of baked bacon will cost 227 UAH (+11%), and a kilogram of pork steak will be priced at 294 UAH (+12%).
Meanwhile, poultry remains the cheapest meat option at the end of 2024: for a kilogram of chicken fillet, one will pay, on average, 174 UAH (a price increase of 9%).
“Overall, the cost of 2.850 kg of meat products for the New Year's table will amount to 1029 UAH,” — summarized Luplenko.
The traditional herring for the Ukrainian table (0.5 kg fillet) will cost 119 UAH, hard cheese (300 g) will be priced at 148.5 UAH (+28%), and a pack of butter (200 g) will cost 104 UAH (+44%).
Additionally, there will be an increase in vegetable costs for the New Year's table compared to last year: the average total will be 496 UAH (32% higher). In particular, potatoes (2 kg) will cost 65 UAH this year (+70%), champignon mushrooms (1 kg) – 157 UAH (+15%), sweet peppers (0.5 kg) — 99 UAH (+38%), fresh cucumbers (0.5 kg) — 55 UAH (+22%), and fresh tomatoes (1 kg) — 120 UAH (+42%).
Meanwhile, fruits for the festive table will cost 254 UAH (a price increase of 49%). For instance, for 2 kg of mandarins, Luplenko noted, one will pay 177 UAH, a kilogram of bananas will cost, on average, 62 UAH, and a lemon (200 g) will be 15 UAH.
A loaf of white bread will cost 28 UAH (+19%), while chocolate candies will be priced at an average of 280 UAH per kilogram (+40%).
An essential attribute of the festive table—a bottle of "Artemivske" champagne (0.75 l) – will cost 209 UAH. A little more—263 UAH—will be needed for a bottle (0.5 l) of "Shabo" brandy aged 5 years. Prices have increased by 17% and 25%, respectively.
Meanwhile, non-alcoholic beverages for the festive table will cost 110.95 UAH (a price increase of 7.3%): for "Our juice" multivitamin with pulp (950 ml), one will pay 39.50 UAH (+9%), for "Coca-Cola" (1.75 l) — 48.22 UAH (+6%), and for "Morshynska" mineral water (1.5 l) — 23.23 UAH (+7%).
At the same time, as Luplenko noted, families that can afford to buy delicacies will have to spend an additional almost 739 UAH: depending on the manufacturer, a jar of red caviar (100 g) will cost, on average, 420 UAH, and 180 g of red fish will be priced at 319 UAH.
“Thus, the cost of the New Year's table with delicacies will amount to 4333.05 UAH,” — concluded the economist.
