Experts have conducted an analysis
The actual number of deserters within the Armed Forces of Ukraine is nearly three times lower than the figures reported by some reputable foreign media.
This was reported by opendatabot.
According to analysts' calculations, over the course of 10 months this year, Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have opened 19,922 criminal proceedings related to the desertion of servicemen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At the same time, there were 41,950 criminal proceedings opened this year for unauthorized absence from duty — twice as many as for desertion.
Proceedings concerning unauthorized absence are investigated more efficiently: suspects were identified in 13 percent of cases, and 7 percent reached court, whereas only 3 percent of desertion cases this year resulted in charges being brought, with just 1.3 percent proceeding to court.
It is important to note that unauthorized absence is considered as temporarily leaving the place of service without the commander's permission or valid reasons, or failing to report for duty for a certain period. In contrast, desertion refers to cases where a serviceman has no intention of returning to service.
Recall, that Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Kyiv regions in November became leaders in volunteer applications to recruitment centers for the staffing of Armed Forces units.
