The scammer turned out to be from Western Ukraine
Law enforcement in the capital have tracked down and arrested a fraudster who sent fake phones instead of the "iPhone 15 Pro" and "iPhone 15 Pro Max" to residents of Kyiv.
This was reported by the capital's prosecutor's office.
According to investigators, the 18-year-old scammer posted an advertisement on the "OLX" website for the sale of mobile phones of the specified models. Instead, he sent customers fake phones in branded boxes by mail.
Notably, buyers did not check whether the phone they received was genuine when picking up their orders at the post office; they only looked to see if there was something in the box. After that, they sent the seller money through the postal service. Once at home, the owners of the fakes realized they had fallen victim to a scam.
The prosecutor's office noted that the 18-year-old young man "earned" nearly 340,000 hryvnias by deceiving 12 buyers. Efforts are underway to identify other individuals who have been affected by the suspect's illegal actions.
The scammer has now been informed of the charges against him and has been placed under house arrest as a preventive measure.
As a reminder, law enforcement detained a 34-year-old native of the Rivne region who defrauded an elderly woman in Kyiv.
