Immediately after the "wedding," the participants in the scheme attempted to sell the property
Law enforcement officials have reported suspicions against three individuals who "married" a deceased woman from Kyiv in order to inherit her assets.
This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
Following the death of the 51-year-old woman, who had no heirs, a three-room apartment in the Solomianskyi district worth 2.7 million hryvnias was left behind.
“The perpetrators found a Kyiv resident willing to pretend to be the deceased's husband in order to claim her apartment as an inheritance. He provided his documents to create a forged marriage certificate, stating that the marriage took place in 1998 in the Russian Federation. Subsequently, the fraud participant obtained a certificate of inheritance rights, which allowed him to become the owner of the apartment,” the prosecutor's office reported.
Later, the fraudsters attempted to sell the property but were apprehended immediately after the sales transaction was concluded.
The participants in the scheme have been notified of their suspicion under Part 5 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – fraud committed in especially large amounts or by an organized group. The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for a term of five to twelve years with confiscation of property.
The suspects are currently in custody. Additionally, measures are being taken to impose a freeze on the apartment to prevent its further sale.
