Restrictions should be seasonal
Some residents of the capital are requesting the city authorities to allow an increase in speed during the summer period to 100 km/h on certain urban highways.
A corresponding petition on this matter has been posted on the Kyiv City Council's website.
The authors of the initiative explain that Kyiv is a large city that stretches over 40 km in various directions. To optimize traffic flow, it is necessary to implement an increase in the speed limit to 100 km/h during the summer season on sections that are adapted and safe. Specifically, these would be areas with roads separated from pedestrians and having three or more lanes in one direction.
According to the signatories of the document, such sections include the avenues of Roman Shukhevych, Stepan Bandera, Mykola Bazhan, Naberezhno-Rybalska Street, Naberezhne and Nadnipryanske, as well as the Kyiv Highway, and the R-69 road within Kyiv.
At the same time, Kyiv residents note that in winter, the speed on these sections should be limited to 70 km/h.
It is worth noting that earlier, another group of Kyiv residents registered a petition asking the Kyiv City Council deputies to revoke a previously adopted decision that established a seasonal increase in the maximum allowable speed for vehicles on certain roads of the capital.
