The students of the Ukrainian Physical and Mathematical Lyceum at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv won awards in all three top positions at the 21st International Youth Science Olympiad in Bucharest.

Out of the six participants representing Ukraine in this year's competition, three were students from the capital's lyceum. Each of these physics and math students returned with an award. Specifically, Sviatoslav Lavreniuk won a gold medal, Daryna Zembovych secured a silver medal, and Mariia Yushtina earned a bronze medal.

Sviatoslav Lavreniuk's winning medal marks the first gold for the Ukrainian team at this Olympiad throughout its history.

The International Youth Science Olympiad is one of the 12 most prestigious competitions in the world, recognized by UNESCO. During the event, students demonstrate their knowledge across three natural science disciplines: physics, chemistry, and biology, as stated on the lyceum's Facebook page.

This year, six representatives from Ukraine competed for supremacy in natural sciences against 303 participants from over 50 countries worldwide. The Ukrainian team proved that they can compete on equal footing with the strongest teams globally. The training, preparation, and support for the Ukrainian team at the Olympiad were provided by the lyceum's physics teacher, Honored Teacher of Ukraine, Maksym Pashko.
