The city mayor, Igor Terekhov, announced this.
During a meeting with journalists, Terekhov shared that his grandfather was among the builders of the Gospro.
“It is a hallmark of the city, so we will officially apply to UNESCO. Our international department is working on initiating this process,” — quotes the mayor from “Gvara Media.”
The head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Oleg Synegubov, also noted that negotiations are underway with international donors to assist with funding for the building's restoration.
On the eve around 21:00, Russian occupiers struck the center of Kharkiv. One of the enemy FAB-500 bombs hit the Gospro building — a national architectural monument included in the preliminary UNESCO World Heritage list. As a result of the strike, the third floor of the building was partially damaged.
Debris and the shockwave also damaged the rehabilitation unit of a medical institution, two residential buildings, the building of the appellate economic court, two educational institutions, a bank branch, food establishments, and seven cars.
Nine people were injured: five men, including a police officer on duty, and four women. An 18-year-old girl passing by the impact site is hospitalized in moderate condition.
Another strike on Kharkiv occurred at 03:00. The occupiers targeted the Osnovyansk district of the city. As a result of the shelling with UAVs, a private house was destroyed, and another 19 were damaged.
Two men aged 50 and 57 were injured. Four people died — two young men aged 25 and 26, and two women aged 70 and 90.
The Gospro became a symbol of the industrial era of the 1920s. It was built between 1925 and 1928 in the constructivist style and became the first skyscraper in Europe with a reinforced concrete structure.
The building has a unique shape resembling a labyrinth with a complex of interconnected sections and passages that resemble giant machines. The design allows passage from one end of the building to the other without the need to go outside.
The skyscraper consists of three parts, each with a different height. The tallest central tower reaches 63 meters.
In 2017, the Gospro was included in the preliminary UNESCO list as a site deserving World Heritage status.
