This is stated in the report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to data from the DeepState monitoring group, over the past 24 hours on December 5, Russian forces captured several more populated areas in eastern Ukraine — Novopustynka, Ilyinka, and Novodmitrovka. They also advanced in Kurakhove, Romanovka, and near Uspenovka.

ISW calculated that in November, Russian troops advanced at a rate of approximately 27.96 km² per day, controlling a total of 839 km² in Ukraine and the Kursk region. At the same time, they lost 45,690 personnel over the month.

The losses for October and September, according to analysts, totaled about 80,110 military personnel in exchange for the capture of approximately 1,517 km² of territory.

Overall, during the period of intense offensive operations in the fall of 2024, Russian forces lost around 125,800 soldiers in exchange for 2,356 km² of gains, meaning 53 Russian casualties for every square kilometer of Ukrainian territory captured.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces appear to have advanced in operations in the Kursk region of Russia. Analysts refer to geolocation footage published on December 4.

It is noted that Ukrainian forces have moved into the center of the village of Daryino in the Sudzha district.

One of the Russian "military bloggers" claimed that assault groups of Russian troops advanced in the forests near Malaya Loknia and are conducting a sweep. In the area of Nikolaevo-Daryino, Ukrainian counterattacks are being repelled. However, ISW notes that there is no confirmation of recent Russian advances north of Sudzha.
