The drone is equipped with a propeller developed by Ukrainian partner Insta, a radio signal management system, data transmission capability, and pilot goggles. The goggles feature a "first-person" mode, allowing the pilot to observe the environment from the drone's perspective.
Additionally, Finland has developed a charge that contains explosives and fires steel and tungsten bullets. Tungsten is a hard metal that was previously used to make, for example, filaments for incandescent bulbs. It has the highest melting and boiling points among chemical elements. Currently, this material is one of the raw materials for the defense industry.
These bullets can penetrate the roof of a standard or lightly armored vehicle from several dozen meters in height. Overall, the drone's charge is designed for eliminating infantry. As noted by Yle, if soldiers were positioned on an area the size of a football field, three such drones would be sufficient to kill or injure them.
The drone has a large operational range and is resistant to obstacles. The development will be showcased at the SecD Day event in Helsinki.
According to the Finnish Defense and Aerospace Industry Association, in addition to Insta, more than 10 defense companies in the country collaborate directly with Ukrainian firms.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that in 2024, Ukraine plans to produce one million drones and increase artillery production.
Former head of the Ministry of Strategic Industries, Alexander Kamyshin, clarified that the one million drones announced by Zelensky for 2024 refers only to FPV drones. Additionally, there is potential to produce over 10,000 strike drones with medium to long range.
By the end of May 2024, it became known that Ukraine already has one million drones.
Later, Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Klimenko mentioned in an interview with SMALL TALK that almost 100% of the drones for the Defense Forces are currently produced in Ukraine, with the majority coming from the private sector.
On January 3, 2025, it was reported that President Zelensky ordered the production of at least 30,000 long-range drones. Ukrainian enterprises also plan to manufacture around 3,000 cruise missiles and drone missiles.
According to the Ministry of Strategic Industries, Ukraine has sufficient capacity to produce 3 million drones of various types annually. However, funding is required.
