The U.S. proposed its own UN resolution regarding the war in Ukraine, earning praise from Russia.

The United States has put forward its own draft resolution for the UN regarding the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This proposal differs significantly from the version backed by European nations.
США представили свой проект резолюции ООН по конфликту в Украине, что было оценено положительно Россией.

This is reported by Reuters and AP.

The U.S. resolution draft is very concise, consisting of three paragraphs. It "mourns the tragic loss of life during the Russia-Ukraine conflict," calls for "an immediate end to the conflict," and further advocates for "a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia."

Russia proposed an amendment to the draft, stating: "calls for an immediate end to the conflict, including addressing its root causes, and further calls for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia."

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, described the U.S. draft as "a positive step."

An anonymous Russian diplomat commented to Reuters that if the Russian amendment is accepted by the UN General Assembly, Moscow will vote in favor of the U.S. resolution.

At the same time, the draft resolution from the EU and Ukraine highlights the "full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation" and demands that Russia "immediately, completely, and unconditionally withdraw all its military forces from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders" and similar stipulations.

The UN General Assembly does not have veto power, but its resolutions are not legally binding—unlike actions by the Security Council. Nevertheless, these resolutions carry political weight, reflecting the global perspective on the war.
