During a conversation with the community organization Voto Latino, Biden stated that Puerto Ricans from his home state of Delaware are “good, decent, honorable people.” He added: “The only trash I see there is his fans. The demonization of Latinos is shameless and un-American. It completely contradicts everything we have done, everything we have been.”
The White House claims that Biden's criticism was aimed directly at the comedian, not all of his fans. Subsequently, the president confirmed this himself.
Trump and his allies have already reacted to this incident. They emphasize that he meant the fans, not just one person.
“This is terrible. That was said. […] Forgive him, because he doesn’t know what he said,” Trump stated.
At a rally, Republican Senator Marco Rubio expressed hope that Biden would apologize for his comments, reports the Washington Post.
Donald Trump’s presidential campaign rally at Madison Square Garden was criticized for racist remarks and vulgarity. Vice President Kamala Harris was called “the Antichrist,” “a person with a very low IQ,” and compared to a prostitute.
Further criticism arose from stand-up comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s comments that Latinos “love to have children,” and that the U.S. Caribbean territory Puerto Rico is a “floating island of trash.”
Hinchcliffe opened the rally with a performance filled with insults about Latinos, African Americans, and other groups that Trump’s campaign is actively trying to win over.
