The chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been named a suspect due to allegations that he may have amassed $1 million since 2022. Measures have been taken against military personnel involved in the case regarding the defense failure in the Kharkiv region. The defense forces have targeted an oil depot and an aircraft factory in Russia. Here are the main news highlights from January 21.

Detention of the Chief Psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Law enforcement officials have detained Oleg Druzy, the head psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the chief of the psychiatric clinic at the National Military Medical Clinical Center "Main Military Clinical Hospital," on suspicion of illegal enrichment. According to the investigation, he acquired assets worth over 1 million dollars.

The command of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated its "zero tolerance for facts involving corrupt crimes" and assured that it is facilitating the investigation.

Preventive Measures in the Case of Defense in Kharkiv Region

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv has ordered former commander of the operational-tactical group "Kharkiv," Yuriy Halushkin, to be held in custody with the possibility of posting a bail of 5 million hryvnias. Colonel Ilya Lapin has also been taken into custody. Both are implicated in the case concerning inadequate defense in the Kharkiv region.

Meanwhile, the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade has come to the defense of its former commander, Artur Gorbenko, another suspect. The military stated that they wish to present the "true story" in court.

Defense Forces Attacked Oil Depot and Factory in Russia

On the night of January 21, the Defense Forces of Ukraine attacked a number of key targets of the occupiers in the territory of the Russian Federation.

For the second time in a week, UAVs from the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the "Liskinskaya" oil depot in the Voronezh region. The infrastructure of the Smolensk Aviation Plant was also targeted.

Police Identified Participants in the Beating of a Girl in Bila Tserkva

Law enforcement officials have identified ten participants in the incident involving the beating of a 12-year-old girl in Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region. The actions of those involved have been reclassified: a pre-trial investigation is ongoing regarding the fact of torture (part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

One of the suspects, a 16-year-old boy, has already been charged with torture and extortion during martial law (part 4 of Article 189, part 1 of Article 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The Kyiv Regional Military Administration is monitoring the situation, and representatives of the ombudsman have already met with the girl and the principal of the school where her assailants study.

Trump Signed a Series of Decrees, Including Suspension of Foreign Aid

U.S. President Donald Trump signed a series of his decrees upon officially taking office. In particular, he ordered the suspension of all American foreign aid for 90 days.

The Center for Counteracting Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council explained that this does not pertain to military assistance to Ukraine.
